Temporada Alta 2023 presents eighteen own productions and co-productions, one of the hallmarks of the festival which has as one of its objectives to encourage creation and strengthen ties between international creators and artists and those "at home". In fact, its director, Salvador Sunyer, has remarked that, with six shows, it is the edition with more international proposals "than ever". One of the highlights of the performing arts festival's programming is the show based on the love letters exchanged between writer Albert Camus and actress María Casares, directed by Mario Gas. Nine of the co-productions will be absolute premieres. Angèlica Liddell, Sergio Boris, Jordi Oriol or the company Susanna Barranco will be some of the festival's own names.
The 32nd edition of Temporada Alta will begin on September 30 and will last until December 12, and there will be absolute premieres, international productions and proposals for contemporary creation in genres such as theatre, dance, circus, installations and music. This June 11, they have made public the programming of the section of own productions and co-productions. There are eighteen, eleven of which are absolute premieres. Two more are premieres in Spain and two in Catalonia.
The director of Temporada Alta, Salvador Sunyer, has screened his own productions, among which there is one of the highlights of this edition: 'Casares-Camus: a love story'. It is the production directed by Mario Gas and starring by Jordi Boixaderas and Rosa Renom made from the letters that lovers Albert Camus and María Casares exchanged for more than a decade but which had a "tragic end".
International co-productions are a trademark of the house. Sunyer recalled that one of the objectives of the festival is to promote creation and the link between artists from the country and those from abroad and for this edition more proposals arrive "than ever" in this field.
Thanks to alliances with European theaters and festivals, Temporada Alta programs a "large-format" show, which is the result of the international urban dance project that brings together artists from eleven European countries. Face T(w)o from Panoptikum (People Power Partnership) brings 32 dancers on stage.
In this section there is also a peculiar proposal. It won't be able to be seen in Girona until 2024, but it's premiering now and the festival is part of it. Shared Landscapes brings together artists of different nationalities and different disciplines who reflect on art and landscape from the natural environment. Spectators will have to have time because the proposal lasts about seven hours, while the public visits each of the proposals. The project is coordinated by Stefan Kaegi and Caroline Barneaud. Temporada Alta is just defining the space to "leave the city" and enter the forest.
The productions of the alliances with European theaters and festivals continue with Firmamento de La Veronal, Cristo está en Tinder by Rodrigo García, Double Infinite by Mal Pelo, Euforia y desazón by Sergio Boris and El Eje and VUDÚ (3318) Blixen by Angélica Liddell . In this last proposal, and accompanied by an African choir, Liddell will represent his own funeral.
Catalan co-productions
Catalan co-productions are also arriving in force. Sunyer has highlighted the proposal of "one of the creators with more of his own voice" such as Jordi Oriol who presents Sísif fa or no fa, giving voice to a character caught in the gears of capitalist society and perpetual dissatisfaction.
The young collective Las Huecas will reflect on the bonds between people and how they deteriorate because of the fragmentation of time, work and shared space in the assembly About friendship. The impact of the passage of time, ego and self-fiction is the focus of the new show by Nao Albet and Marcel Borràs and Ada Vilaró will present La memória de gel.
The festival also collaborates in dance productions such as Together to get there by Akira Yoshida and Lali Ayguadé, La materia by Olga Pericet and the work in progress by Susanna Barranco The V7 project: The problem is still standing.
Will there be space for three shows for family audiences with Juguem? from the company Ninnus, Madame Lumiere from the company Pels Més Menuts and Com les pignons, from La Bleda.
