The Sabadell Art Museum opens on May 9 at 7 p.m. the Restitution exhibition. Intergenerational dialogue between Marian Burguès i Serra (Sabadell, 1851-1932) and Roc Parés i Burguès (Mexico City, 1968), an original project by Roc Parés i Burguès, curated by Ester Xargay.
restitution Intergenerational dialogue between Marian Burguès i Serra (Sabadell, 1851-1932) and Roc Parés i Burguès (Mexico City, 1968) is an opportunity to meet Maria Burguès i Serra, one of the most important personalities in society and Sabadell culture between the 19th and 20th centuries, from a different perspective than the one we are used to in the history of more traditional art, this time through the perspective of his great-grandson Roc Parés i Burguès.
Restitution is a project of contemporary creation that consists of a double exhibition, a publication and conversations with people familiar with the work of Marian Burguès, scheduled as a parallel activity.
The starting point and the central part of the project is the "Restitution" of twenty-four tiles that Marian Burguès i Serra had made, painted, fired and placed on the fireplace of her house in Sabadell. The original tiles were destroyed just before the descendants of Marian Burguès went into exile. Inspired by those compromising tiles, now gone, we produce new ones, with the professional expertise of Raventós Estudi and hand-painted by Roc Parés.
Despite eschewing historiographical and museological criteria, the exhibition will bring together some of the hundred and fifty works that the MAS conserves by Marian Burguès, from a purely emotional point of view, with fragments of texts by Marian Burguès, published in newspapers and magazines of the time, archival materials and an interactive audiovisual installation created by Roc Parés. This installation offers visitors a meditative and dreamlike experience inspired by the craft of potter.
