The Diputació de Tarragona, through the Museum of Modern Art (MAMT), convenes a new edition of the Art Biennale, a benchmark for artistic creation in the demarcation and throughout the country and state. The contest was reformulated in 2021 and merged into a single award to adapt to new demands and creative trends. In this sense, with a prize of 6,000 euros, the Biennale 2023 will admit works of any style framed within the concept of visual arts. It will also award two grants of €3,000 and provide €600 to the non-awarded works that are selected for the exhibition that will take place later at the Museum of Modern Art of the Provincial Council (MAMT).
The call for the prize will be open from April 3rd to May 2nd and visual artists who are of legal age and resident in Spain can submit their entries. Only original, signed and unpublished works that have not been selected or awarded in any other competition will be accepted. The award-winning work will become part of the Tarragona Council's art fund. The grants can be requested through the Electronic Headquarters of the Provincial Council and all the information can be found in the Provincial Services Guide.
The jury for the awards will be made up of Noemí Llauradó, president of the Provincial Council of Tarragona; Manel Margalef, director of the MAMT, who will act as secretary, and by four members: Oriol Fontdevila, art curator; Xavier Acarin, art critic and independent curator; Bárbara Cueto, independent curator and Laura Vallès, curator tutor at the Royal College of Art in London.
With the call for the Art Biennale, the Tarragona County Council aims to promote creation and research in any artistic modality that falls within the concept of visual arts, regardless of its discipline and without the need for attend to any prior classification.
