The Anquins gallery celebrates its 50th anniversary
bonart reus - 26/01/23

In 2023 the Anquins gallery will celebrate its 50th anniversary and for this reason it has scheduled a whole series of exhibitions, publications and events that will begin on January 27 with the opening of the exhibition of the historical artist Modest Cuixart (1925-2007).

The exhibition Natura diversa, curated by the doctor in art history Raquel Medina, it is made up of a magnificent selection of works from the best stages of Cuixart. In the catalog that the gallery has published on the occasion of the exhibition, Raquel Medina tells us about the artist: "Alchemist of matter, master of color, magician of graphics that turns into sign, figure, geometry or calligraphy, Cuixart tackled from his own territory, the enigmas of existence, of the universe. At no time has he tried to reveal them, but only invites us to enter an imaginary world, −that of his works− and offers us an experience that, beyond aesthetics, prompts us to explore new dimensions of the reality that surrounds us".

His intense artistic career began in 1948 when he founded "Dau al set" together with Arnau Puig, Brossa, Tharrats, Joan Ponç and Antoni Tàpies. In the 1950s, he renewed informalism, received awards as important as the Sao Paulo Biennale and achieved great international success. Cuixart goes through several life and artistic stages, some controversial by critics, others unfairly forgotten or almost unknown.

In 2021, Raquel Medina coordinated an impressive Cuixart exhibition at the Cuenca Abstract Art Museum, where she presented the book "Cuixart, the crucial years, 1956-1966" published by the Juan March foundation, in which the historian analyzes the artist's work in depth and places him in the pre-eminent place that belongs to him among the avant-gardes of the 50s and 60s. The city of Barcelona and its museums owe an outstanding debt to this great artist, meanwhile the city of Reus will be able to enjoy his exhibition until March 11.

Cuixart was one of the most emblematic artists linked to the Anquins gallery from its beginnings, where he exhibited in 1979 and repeatedly in the 80s. Cuixart participated in many editions of the Salons de Maig and in 1985 he was the honored His last individual exhibition at the gallery took place in 2002 on the occasion of Gaudí Year, when a catalog and the edition of the etching "Copa Gaudí" were made.

Raquel Medina will be in charge of presenting the exhibition during the opening event on January 27 at 7:30 p.m., and later on March 4, she will present her book.
