In the face-to-face meeting that took place this past Tuesday, November 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in Figueres, the president of the Foundation, Jordi Mercader, assured that one of the priority objectives by 2023 it will be to promote immersive exhibitions. According to Mercader, one of the main causes of this decision is the high increase in the transport of the works.

On the other hand, the president also pointed out that, like the transport, the price of the insurance of the paintings has increased by three.

It should be noted that the importance of this type of exhibition for the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation is very relevant, since it has already started with this type of exhibition years ago, as is the example of the exhibition entitled Les Carrières de Lumières in one of the old quarries of Provence. Another of the outstanding topics where the focus will be on quality over the economic topic. According to Mercader, the Foundation intends to launch a total of four immersive projects that will travel through different rooms.

In addition to these lines of action, Mercader reported on two very important exhibition projects for the year 2023 which are: the exhibition entitled Mind of Genius/Salvador Dalí, which will take place at the International Fashion Center in GuiYang (China ) and the exhibition, in the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, of Christ, which is an oil belonging to the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow.

Finally, the president highlighted the subject of the internal reform that the institution has carried out in the last two years and the process of expansion and internationalization in which it has committed itself. It should be remembered that during this year the Foundation has strengthened its international section with a retrospective exhibition in Seoul and collaborated with immersive experiences on Salvador Dalí in Paris, Florence, Ghent, Brussels, Auckland, London and Buenos Aires. He has also participated in another immersive event in Madrid, entitled Desafío Dalí and produced by Artdidaktik. In China, specifically in the Shanghai subway station, reproductions of some of Dalí's main works are exhibited, thanks to the initiative of the Cervantes Institute with the collaboration of the Embassy Spain in China.

The Foundation has also collaborated with the Meadows Museum in Dallas with the exhibition Dali/Vermeer: in Dialogue, and will soon do so with the Art Institute of Chicago, through a major loan of the works Portrait of Gala with two balancing ribs on his shoulder and The image disappears, a project for which he provides scientific content in the field of conservation and restoration.

Recovery of 75% of visitors

From January to September 2022, the Foundation's three museums have received a total of 663,860 visitors, a figure that represents 141% of those it had in 2021 during the same period. The president has emphasized the commitment to achieve this increase in the number of visitors, among whom stand out those from France (35.6%), Catalonia (9.1%), and the rest of Spain (15.5%) . The most significant decline is from

visitors from Russia, the United States and Italy. According to Mercader, the Foundation anticipates a similar number of visitors for the year 2023. We should also mention the prize that the Casa de Portlligat has received for the best museum in the world, recognition that has been awarded by the Tiqets platform based on the opinions of visitors

Regarding the issue of new technologies, the Foundation will invest in digital technologies, in knowledge, and in new formats and stories through a strategy based on multimedia products with artistic and educational objectives.

On the other hand, from October 27 you can visit the temporary exhibition Transgressing Venus. Dalí is classic, surrealist and Pop Art!, which the Dalí Theatre-Museum has inaugurated in the Sala de les Lògies together with the collaboration with the Art Institute of Chicago.

In this exhibition you can see the Venus de Milo with drawers together with the holographic creation projected on a transparent Oled screen. These two experiences represent new ways of presenting the Dalinian legacy in order to attract the attention of younger people.

Apart from the two sculptures (the physical and the digital), an oil, 3 drawings, 1 piece of preparatory material, 15 photographs, 3 brochures, 2 magazines, 2 books and a fragment of the film titled "Autoportrait mou" are on display. This exhibition can be visited until autumn 2023.
