Juan Escudero and Edouard Cabay present their latest work entitled Desdoblamiento at the Pigment Gallery from September 15, 2022. This collaborative work between these two artists shows the difference between them, since on the one hand one draws a hand and the other builds and codes machines, but the approaches of all share plastic similarities and common themes such as, for example, the appreciation of imprecision, the fascination with repetition, the unpredictability of the result, the emergence of form, the importance of time in the drawing process, etc...
The exhibition, which includes a selection of works by the two artists, revolves around an automatic drawing installation that presents two punches whose movements, coded, respond symmetrically on an iron plate prepared for engraving. This allows the reproduction, again symmetrical, of the pattern on the paper, in the form of a series.
The notion of symmetry, even or double is expressed in the exhibition through several series of drawings and prints that are reflected and emerge on both sides of a cut, a mirror drawing made by a robot that releases drops of ink from variable heights, a machine that tries, without success, to make the same drawing twice.
Ultimately, in this exhibition we can realize that the real duality lies in the two artistic practices, one manual and the other digital, which questions the existence of this limit by looking for their overlaps rather than their differences.
Visiting hours to the gallery are: Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:00, Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m.
