The Bòlit 2022-2023 project maintains as structural axes the notions of "dialogue" and "ecosystem", ideas that will be worked on from the four main discursive axes with which it began: tactical thinking and the public sphere, materialisms, territory and zoning , displacements and memory. This afternoon, the vice-mayor and Councilor for Culture of Girona City Council, Quim Ayats; the vice-president of the Provincial Council of Girona and Deputy for Culture, Albert Piñeira; the director of the Territorial Services of Culture of the Generalitat in Girona, Josep Calataiud, and the director of the Bòlit, Contemporary Art Centre. Girona, Íngrid Guardiola, have presented the schedule for the new season between autumn 2022 and 2023.
"It has been a year since the new stage of the Bòlit began. I am very proud of this first year, and of the great work that has been done", said the vice-mayor Quim Ayats, who emphasized that "the main The aim was and is to make Bòlit an art and cultural center of reference throughout the country, while maintaining its proximity networks and offering a more transversal public service that looks after both the artistic sector and the citizens of the territory, understanding the "art and culture as a right and participation as an indispensable tool".
"The Diputació de Girona always takes the dissemination of Art. Bringing it closer to the younger generations as you do in Bòlit through mediation, the agenda and public calls is a very effective way to achieve this. Art to understand the world", said vice-president Albert Piñeria.
"El Bòlit, as a territorial center for visual arts, has clearly achieved most of the objectives set by the Department of Culture regarding the visual arts: territorialisation, research, dynamism of new artists and new audiences and, above all , a constant desire to establish links between society and contemporary art that stimulates debates that are absolutely necessary in today's society", explained the director of the Territorial Services of Culture of the Generalitat in Girona, Josep Calataiud.
The new programming focuses on how to work from cooperations and alliances, from sustainability, putting fashions, novelties and the scoop in the background. One way to do this is by supporting and trusting research that is already underway. This is the aim of some of the exhibitions, such as the work of Sofya Giménez, that of Malpelo, that of Pep Admetlla or the exhibition My body knows unheard songs, the flesh says to see, I am spacious flesh that sings: A research on gender, monstrosities and becoming altrx, which includes the research that Hélène Cixous, Jara Rocha, Femke Snelting, Laia Estruch or Marina Núñez, among others, have been doing for years.
This research, in the 2022-2023 programme, will look for new territories: the singular, eccentric characters who make up the cultural heritage of the Girona and Catalan territory; vital disorientation; Tosquelles, madness and neurodiversity; female monstrosities and becoming "other"; how to relate to technology in an environment of energy poverty; Víctor Català and the artistic reinterpretation of oral tradition and nature as a patriarchal threat; the analogy between the eye and the theater from an architectural, physical-chemical and neurological point of view; or how to build and think of an artistic trajectory based on the evolution of the body and the artistic community itself.
The territory has been approached in a direct way by hosting a good group of artists from the province of Girona or cooperating with the cultural entities of the city and its surroundings; but the notion of territory is also expanded when working from the archive in some of the projects - ethnographic archives in Els desconeguts de sempe, historical archives in Una mamá de un millón or personal archives in Malpelo's The Bluebird Call - or when reflects on the ecosystems themselves, such as Making plants grow in the dark, The outline of an arc (Eulàlia Rovira) or More room for the dark. Finally, the body becomes a territory when dealing with female monstrosities in El meu cos connoisseur cants unheard, carne diu ver, am spacious flesh that sings and L'ombra sota la parpella, in which Pep Admetlla addresses the relationship between architectures and the vision through the panopticon.
Beyond exhibition formats
Each long-term exhibition organizes a constellation of activities, own or in collaboration, such as conferences, seminars or dialogues that allow a better understanding of its contents (Bòlit Pensament) or family activities that help to better understand the world in which we live (Miticultor). In addition, other mediation activities are deployed such as educational resources for schools or visits adapted for people with functional diversity and workshops, to be able to understand the concepts from practice. Bòlit does this with educational resources (fixed and specific for each exhibition), with guided tours adapted to the deaf community, with the Bòlit Mentor project and with two new education and mediation projects: Segona Residència, an art work in the squares on summer evenings (in collaboration with La Volta and les Bernardes) and Nexes, an art project in schools, in collaboration with the Carme Auguet school and the education area of Girona City Council.
At the same time, the artists' residencies project remains a space for research, investigation and creation that opens up the possibility of exchanging projects with other national, state and international centers that have residencies. For 2022, the collaborations with La Chambre Blanche de Québec, Rad'Art of the Associazione Arteco d'Italia, Lo Pati are maintained. Terres de l'Ebre Art Center (Amposta) and the Inund'Art and Art & Gavarres festivals. This year an exchange with the yam-yam space in Mieres is incorporated and the residences are maintained in collaboration with the EMA (Municipal School of Art), in printmaking and ceramics. The results of the research processes are presented in the form of Open Studio or small interventions in the windows of the Bòlit_PouRodó.
In 2023, catalogs will be published linked to the exhibitions "Els desconeguts de sempre", "Biennale 2064", the project "Bòlit Mentor" and a new line of publications will be launched that aims to provide coverage to those artists with a career who want to work , creatively and openly, with their own archives.
