25 Paris Photo 2022 edition

25 Paris Photo 2022 edition
bonart paris - 27/09/22

The 25th edition of the main international photography art fair, Paris Photo 2022 will be held from November 10 to 13 at the Grand Palais Éphémère, located at 3 Avenue Général Eisenhower in Paris. The main objective of this fair, which is organized by Reed Exhibitions France, is to give photographic support to creation by promoting the work of gallerists, publishers and artists and to present the latest from French and international companies related to the sector of publishing, photography, cinema, art gallery and art.

This new edition is organized around 3 sectors that bring together a total of 183 exhibitors from 31 countries around the world. The main sector brings together 134 galleries from 29 countries, including 18 new galleries compared to last year. The Curiosa sector is dedicated to emerging art, and brings together a total of 16 galleries (including 11 new ones) from 9 countries under the direction of guest curator Holly Roussell. As for the book sector, this will bring together 34 publishers (including 4 new ones) from 9 countries, offering unique editions and cutting-edge book presentations with an author program that brings together the biggest names in photography from all over the world.

As for the Elles x Paris Photo section, orchestrated this year by Federica Chiocchetti, it promotes the visitability of women artists and their contribution to the history of photography. This section offers a program of talks, exhibitions and prizes to visitors allowing them to develop their knowledge of the medium. BMW and JP Morgan Private Bank, will continue to be the official sponsors, and the numerous public and private partners of Paris Photo, allow this fair to become the most important annual event in the world of photography.

It is also worth noting the celebration of the second edition of the Online Viewing Room. This online platform developed by Artlogic, which is the leader in digital technology for the art world, offers Paris Photo galleries and publishers additional visibility to enrich their artistic proposals presented at the fair.

On the other hand, for collectors and enthusiasts, it is the opportunity to acquire art easily, especially works and art books, to list their favorites, to discover new talents, to browse the selections of curators and to build new relations with galleries and publishers. Visitors will also have access to an online program developed exclusively by Paris Photo.

Rossy de Palma, guest of honor

The guest of honor for this 25th edition is the multidisciplinary Spanish actress Rossy de Palma. Model and muse for many photographers and passionate about photography, Rossy de Palma has curated a selection of 25 works of art that visitors can discover throughout the galleries. This is a very good opportunity for the actress to share with visitors her personal favorites and her aesthetic universe. The photograph of Rossy de Palma taken by Gorka Postigo in 2018 for the cover of Vogue magazine was chosen by the Paris Photo team. Postigo studied architecture in Madrid and Milan and after his formative years focused on photography, specifically fashion and documentary photography. Visually speaking, Postigo's portraits are often striking and very playful.

As part of the Paris Photo 2022 program of activities, the Aperture Foundation photography book prize will be awarded. Mention should also be made of Carte Blanche-Students 2022, which is a platform to promote emerging photography. The platform of conversations and debates will be held for four days with the presence of outstanding personalities from the world of photography who will discuss topics such as the application of new digital techniques in the field of photography, the metaverse and NFTs, and some directed conversations by Alain Quemin who will focus on performance art.

There will also be a section "the artist speaks through the eyes", which has been carried out by the team of The Eyes magazine and which puts into perspective the relationship between the artist and the book in artistic practice, the editorial approach and its production. Paris Photo will also present a selection of works from the national photographic commission "IMAGE 3.0", initiated by the Center National d'Arts Plàstiques (CNAP), in collaboration with the Jeu de Paume. For the second consecutive year, the City of Paris will be present at Paris Photo with an educational stand, which will present the main actions of its photographic conservation-restoration service (ARCP), and which will focus on the topic of specific alterations to photographs .
