24 national and international artists are participating, who will perform 19 nature art interventions in seven municipalities in Gavarre
The facilities can be visited in Cassà de la Selva, Celrà, Girona, Juià, Llagostera, Madremanya and Sant Martí Vell from September 3 to November 3, 2022
Several locations in the municipalities of Cassà de la Selva, Celrà, Girona, Juià, Llagostera, Madremanya and Sant Martí Vell will be the scene of the artistic interventions of 24 local, national and international artists, who are participating in the fifth edition of the Festival Art & Gavarres The artists come from France, Belgium, Morocco, the Basque Country, Valencia, Galicia and Catalonia.
This year the proposed inspiring and driving thread revolves around the importance that roads have had throughout history as the backbone of the territory and society. In this sense, the seven participating municipalities were united by the Empúries road on the Empordà side, a secondary branch of the Via Augusta that went from Gerunda to Emporion, or the old road from Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, between Gironès and Baix Empordà.
As a novelty of this fifth edition, it is worth noting the exchange with La Providence Center Catalan d'Art Vivant de la Catalunya del Norte in the framework of the European micro-project PAYART, financed by the Comunitat de Treball del Pirineu, which has allowed the participation of two northern Catalan artists. Likewise, a collaboration has begun with the SETBA Foundation, whose mission is to bring art closer to groups at risk of social exclusion and to show their reality through culture.
The presentation of the fifth edition of the Art & Gavarres Festival took place today at the La Mercè Cultural Center in Girona and was in charge of the first vice-president of the Provincial Council of Girona and president of the Consorci de les Gavarres, Pau Presas; the general director of Environmental Policies and the Natural Environment of the Generalitat, Marc Vilahur; the Councilor for Sustainability of Girona City Council, Martí Terés, and the head of projects, innovation and higher education of the Mediterranean Pyrenees Euroregion, Pierre Camps.
In his speech, Pau Presas, emphasized that "the Art i Gavarres Festival is a fully consolidated event that aims to discover to the public different ways of living and interpreting the landscape, making its values known through culture, art and nature".
About Art & Gavarres
Art & Gavarres is a festival that starts from the idea that art can be a tool that helps us reflect and change our view of the landscape. It connects art and nature to publicize the Protected Natural Area of les Gavarres and enhance it. During a week, the participating artists create works in situ with natural materials in places in various municipalities around Les Gavarres. The works can be visited until nature itself, over time, erases them.
The Art & Gavarres Festival combines established artists with emerging artists with the aim of becoming an opportunity to introduce young talents together with more recognized artists. This year's participants are: Denys Blacker, Franc Aleu, Francesc Guillamet, Gentz del Valle, Idoia Cuesta, Idoia Lizeaga, Jofre Sebastian, Dimitri Xato, Jordi NN, Manel Bayo, Mohammed Er Rabehy, Mònica Campdepadrós, Núria Rion, Pablo Paz , Paula Bruna, Pep Aymerich, Camille Santacreu, Sergi Miquel, Ivan Forcadell, SP25 Arquitectura, Atelier 4, Víctor Masferrer and Xevi Bayona.
The curators of the Festival are Àngels Artigas and Oriol Granyer. The Art & Gavarres Festival is organized by the Consorci de les Gavarres, attached to the Diputació de Girona, with the collaboration of Bòlit, Contemporary Art Centre, the councils involved and the support of the OSIC (Office of Support to the Cultural Initiative) of the Department of Culture.
