Andreu Buenafuente inaugurates "Jazz" at the Cuixart Foundation
bonart palafrugell - 27/07/22

From Friday 15 July you can visit the temporary exhibition of the renowned comedian and communicator Andreu Buenafuente entitled Jazz at the Cuixart Foundation in Palafrugell.

Jazz is an exhibition of works that offers us the gaze of the artist, a collection inspired by music. Andreu's works revolve around expressionism and fauvism, somewhat following the influence of art brut, colorful and with influences from Miró, Henri Matisse, including a bit of Dau al Set. It must be said that Andreu has been filling notebooks and folders with his illustrations and paintings for more than thirty years. One of the most important communicators in our country who keeps his legacy alive with his talent. Abandoning this side, moving away from the world of humor, but never from communication, Buenafuente now opens a special opportunity with which he also has a lot to say.

For its part, it should be remembered that since the summer of 2014 the Fundació Cuixart has experienced an artistic atmosphere that accompanies the musical evenings during the Jazz nights, as the doors of the painter Modest Cuixart's workshop open to offer an exhibition of painting Every year a painter who lives in the Cuixart workspace is invited. This year, in an unprecedented way and for the first time alone, Andreu Buenafuente exhibits his painting.

As a deep intellectual, Buenafuente, follows in the footsteps of those who express their concerns and their perspective on the present, whether through writing, music, communication, illustration or painting Modest Cuixart was a great artist and was also a profound intellectual who did not have a clear philosophical explanation to describe his works and always fell in the phrase "it is the hand that thinks".

For Andreu Buenafuente, painting and drawing is an action that completes him, an extension of himself with which he continues to explain what is happening. The exit channel from the inner world of the restless and the unstoppable, a philosophical channel at the service of art, an act of communication, which if shown is a generous gesture towards everyone.

Communicator, humorist and artist

Andreu Buenafuente was born on January 24, 1965 in Reus (Tarragona), and in addition to being one of the leading communicators and comedians in the country, he has an extensive artistic career. Buenafuente experiments and enjoys different plastic arts, from painting to illustration, through photography. Andreu has a special relationship with art, it is a world in which he has immersed himself and that with each passing day he tries to further refine the line, the technique, the concept. He has developed a passion for creation throughout his professional career and, specifically, painting is a discipline in which he has been working for more than 30 years, creating work compulsively. He defines himself as 100% self-taught, training himself and always learning from his reference artists.

According to Andreu, "The path of art is long but very beautiful. When you manage to express a feeling with art, the pleasure is incomparable, magical, almost eternal." Andreu's work takes as its starting point all his inner world and thought which he tries to represent graphically. Paintings and illustrations in which colors and blacks, composition and stroke, are embodied with strength and delicacy in all his work. "It's the exciting mystery of seeing shapes, bodies, symbols born that even you hadn't imagined. But it's your hand, your brush that gives them life. Where were they?", reflects Andreu.

Buenafuente has participated in several group exhibitions in Barcelona and Girona in addition to having collaborated in publications such as the New York Times and in projects with major brands. In the publishing field, he has published his first book of illustrations I don't understand anything (Reservoir Books) and his illustrated newspaper Laughter is the only way out (Harper Collins).

This exhibition can be visited until September 3, from Thursday to Saturday from 18:00 to 21:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 13:00 at the Cuixart painter's workshop at the Cuixart Foundation in Palafrugell.

After a long hiatus, the Cuixart Foundation is resuming its activity by opening its doors to host the 7th edition of the series of jazz concerts that began in 2014. This year the Foundation will have the collaboration of Oriol Romaní, who has scheduled this summer with 5 concerts distributed between the months of June, July, August and September. The repertoire of this proposal always revolves around Classical Jazz.
