The inauguration of the exhibition Shipwrecks. Submerged history, on April 28, was the most suggestive framework for the signing of a collaboration agreement between two entities working for the respect, enhancement, conservation and dissemination of the rich underwater archaeological heritage: the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia (MAC) and the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities.

The MAC has been managing the Center for Underwater Archeology of Catalonia (CASC) since 1994, whose mission is to research, protect and disseminate Catalan underwater heritage. For its part, FEDAS, which brings together more than 30,000 members throughout Spain, also actively collaborates in the conservation and protection of underwater heritage, both natural and cultural.

MAC and FEDAS want to act together by supporting archaeological excavations, participating in scientific studies with renowned Catalan universities, by carrying out awareness and dissemination activities aimed at the general public, especially focused on the community of sports divers.

Through this agreement, both bodies will collaborate in actions aimed at the study, protection and dissemination of underwater archaeological heritage, and especially in the organization of information and awareness activities for this heritage aimed at the community of federated sports divers and society as a whole.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement, the director of the MAC Jusép Boya and the president of FEDAS Eduard Centelles, who were accompanied by Pep Fillat, director of the scientific committee of the federation, and Rut Geli, head of the Center for Archeology of Catalonia (CASC), have emphasized the need to bring the knowledge of the underwater heritage closer to the public. The signing of the agreement will also allow the free visit of all members of the federation who wish to the exhibition "Shipwrecks. Submerged history ”which is currently presented at the MAC, and which aims to raise awareness of the richness and diversity of Catalan underwater heritage, and the history, problems and methods of underwater archeology, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the creation of the CASC.
