The Museu de l'Empordà and the Sala Escorxador will exhibit at Made in Figueres. The city of locomotion the importance and the impact that the two wheels had on the city. Curated by Os Bertran (Josep Algans, Manel Gràvalos and Franscesc Guillamet) is a journey through the unique history of industrialization in Figueres, talking about the historical context, the territory, the factories and manufacturers, machines or art, in from different documents of various institutions and individuals.
Figueres has never been an industrial city. And yet in the age of industrialization it grew at the pace of the leading Catalan cities, maintaining its place in the ranking of the main populations of the country with a series of initiatives that combine a significant accumulation of capital and labor and a good dose of technological innovation.
This singularity of Figueres is demonstrated in the bicycle and, above all, motorcycle factories. Few cities have four own brands such as Rieju, Gimson, Ruter and MAF, which show that, as advertised by the Gimson Electro scooter, the first made in the state, without smoke or noise the city was advancing at full speed.
On the other hand, you can also visit the exhibition New Acquisitions (2019-2021), a sample of about fifty pieces, presented and contextualized according to the type of income: deposits, donations and purchases. The collection of the Museu de l'Empordà has been shaped thanks to the acquisitions that have built this institution in Figueres since 1885.
The mayoress of Figueres, Agnès Lladó explained that "the exhibitions of Fairs are very special." Made in Figueres "shows us an industrial Figueres, a city that grew at the pace of the leading Catalan cities, maintaining its place in the ranking of the main populations of the country with initiatives that combine an important accumulation of capital and manpower with technological innovation. A singularity of Figueres that is demonstrated in the factories of bicycles and especially of motorcycles ". On the other hand, the exhibition "New Acquisitions" will allow to know works that are exhibited for the first time in public ".
