The president of the Girona Provincial Council, Miquel Noguer, has inaugurated the exhibition Pablito, a vision close to the Girona House of Culture, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the photojournalist Pablo García Cortés (Almeria, 1922 - Girona, 1999). The exhibition can be visited until May 21.
This is a selection of images captured by the photographer that show the social, political and artistic activity of the counties of Girona and their transformation over almost three decades.
Between 1957 and 1984, Pablito approached the world of culture, sports and nightlife in Girona thanks to his ability as a photojournalist, but also because of his human dimension, and as a result he collected a good number of graphic testimonials.
Pablito was, as defined by his son, Paul Garcia, an "influencer of the seventies" who documented the years of the tourist boom on the Costa Brava with images of personalities, artists and celebrities from around the world.
The activity carried out by Pablo García Cortés, Pablito, for three decades in the counties of Girona generated an important photographic collection made up of more than 78,000 images and 50 photographic objects. In 1993, the Diputació de Girona and the same photojournalist agreed to admit this fund to INSPAI, the Image Center of the Diputació de Girona.
The president, Miquel Noguer, emphasized in his speech: "The Image Center of the Girona Provincial Council, INSPAI, is a specialized public service that is part of the Department of Culture, New Technologies, Sports and Education of the Diputació de Girona, and is characterized by being one of the few specific facilities dedicated to the collection, treatment, conservation, dissemination, creation and promotion of the image, as well as training and technical advice aimed at municipalities and cultural centers and facilities ". Next, Miquel Noguer added: "The main objectives of INSPAI are to preserve and disseminate the photographic and audiovisual historical memory of the Girona counties, as well as to promote current photography and make it known through exhibitions and publications. I this is what we want to achieve with this exhibition, Pablito, a close vision, to make known to the public, especially the youngest, the legacy that this tireless photographer and journalist has left over the years (from 1940 to 1999) in our demarcation ".
