The Bancaja Foundation's headquarters in Valencia have received works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, which will form part of the Caminos de modernidad 1860-1980 exhibition. The process of assembling the exhibition has already begun for the inauguration on 26 April.

Paths of Modernity 1860-1980 offers a retrospective tour of various pictorial movements, their innovations and oscillations, from the second half of the 19th century to the 1980s. This story of more than a century of art history reaches the public through a hundred works mostly from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection and in dialogue with some pieces from the Fundación Collection Bancaja, and has as its guiding thread the importance of creators from the Mediterranean area present in the Baroness's collection in the evolution of the different pictorial currents of the period.

The exhibition begins when the aesthetic experience of modernity is perceived. After the passage of Romanticism, which considered the artist's attitude as innovative and has a melancholy spirit present in many works, pieces close to naturalism are presented, and then give way to movements such as modernism, inspired by the nature, or Noucentisme, which was an attempt to unite tradition and renewal for a bourgeois society that looked forward to Europe. The exhibition concludes with works belonging to avant-garde currents, when the break with traditional art had taken place, a different sense of time was imposed, linked to the transitory, and a new concept of beauty beat the artists' brushes. .

Among the half a hundred artists present in the exhibition are creators such as Ramon Martí Alsina, Mariano Fortuny, Eliseu Meifrè, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Sorolla, Ramon Casas, Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Joaquim Torres-García, Antoni Tàpies, Manuel Hernández Mompó and Miquel Barceló.
