ARCOmadrid, a fair organized by IFEMA MADRID, returns to the usual date to celebrate its 40th Anniversary (+1), from 23 to 27 February. After the exceptional celebration of the fair in July 2021, the commemorative edition ARCOmadrid 2022 is proposed as a tribute to the galleries themselves as the architects of the 40 (+1) uninterrupted editions of the fair. A call that once again applauds the professional reunion in front of the works at a fair that has wanted to maintain the lessons learned during the pandemic. Thus, in addition to continuing its initiatives in the digital field, ARCO is presented with a more contained size, in response to the suggestions of the Organizing Committee, with the aim of improving the visitor experience and success. of the galleries.
Pavilions 7 and 9 of the IFEMA MADRID Exhibition Center will bring together the offer of a total of 185 galleries from 30 countries, of which 159 are part of the General Program, adding the curated sections: ARCO 40 (+1) Anniversary , with 19 galleries; It's never the same. Latin American Art, with 8, and Opening by Allianz, consisting of 15 galleries.
ARCOmadrid artistic program
ARCOmadrid 2022 is proposed as a unique call in which a special tribute will be paid to the galleries through the commemorative section: ARCO 40 (+1) Anniversary. An exceptional program made up of 19 international galleries selected by María Inés Rodríguez, Francesco Stocchi and Sergio Rubira, who have been present at the fair throughout their careers. This section will highlight the essential relationship between galleries and their artists with the presentation of creators with whom they worked in the early years of ARCO and whose connection persists today. This is the case of artists such as Mona Hatoum –Chantal Crousel–; General Idea -Esther Schipper-; Mario Merz -Giorgio Persano-; Dominique González Foerster –Jan Mot–; Dora García -Juana d'Aizpuru–; Monica Bonvicini -Krinzinger-; Matt Mullican –May 36–, Gilbert & George –Thaddaeus Ropac–, joined by galleries such as 1900-2000 and Ruth Benzacar, among others.

This tribute is presented in parallel with the contents that will be exhibited by the 159 galleries selected by the Organizing Committee in the General Program, with renowned galleries that have once again placed their trust in ARCOmadrid as Perrotin; Peres Projects; Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder; Nordenhake; Heinrich Ehrhardt and Elvira González. These are joined by the new presences of Neugerriemschneider, Simon Lee and Société, or the return of others such as Continua; Henrique Faria; Jocelyn Wolff; Mehdi Chouakri and Meyer Riegger. Along with this fidelity and trust of the galleries, ARCO will also be a reflection of the usual collaborations between them, with shared projects such as the one proposed by Neugerriemschneider and Elvira González dedicated to Olafur Eliasson. In addition, ARCOmadrid continues to support the presentation of projects by individual artists or in dialogue and once again accommodates the ONLY / DUO proposal. Of the galleries in the General Program, 24 will dedicate their stand to one or two artists, such as Károly Hopp-Halász -ACB Gallery-; Luca Bertolo and Chiara Camoni -Arcade-; Carlos Rojas and Rodrigo Valenzuela -Arroniz and Nouveochenta-; Lisetta Carmi and Marianne Berenhaut -Dvir Gallery-; Marzena Nowak -Gregor Podnar-; Eugénia Mussa -Monitor-; Irma Blank -P420-; Olga d'Amaral-Richard Saltoun- or Marta Palau -Walden-.
As usual, ARCOmadrid is interested in new galleries that, due to their short history or being new to the Spanish context, present interesting proposals and allow other creators to be discovered. In this line, through the Opening by Allianz section, the selection of which has been made by Övül Durmuşoğlu and Julia Morandeira, the fair will be a space to explore 15 galleries such as Anne-Sarah Bénichou, East Contemporary, Interstiti and Sperling, which participate at the fair for the first time, or Cibrián, Proxyco and Suprainfinit.
