At a dinner with an artist friend and an ex-gallery friend, the topic of words that fill fashions in the language of contemporary art comes up. Rethink, relocate, re-signify the list of what is carried. The friend explains that one day it occurred to her to make a glossary with all these terms and I tell her that if she is encouraged, we will publish it. I don’t know if it will be professional bias or my unconditional love for language and its peculiarities, so the first thing I think of when I am offered to write this text is the English meaning of the word r ealize . Una accepció que no existeix en català o castellà i que té a veure amb adonar-se'n, entendre clarament una situació i fer-se'n conscient. I also think that, from the list of notions I receive as an example for this request, realize is the only word that is not composed of the prefix re- , related to the repetition in that same word; with intensification to, for example, recharge ; with the refusal or resistance to rebuke , to reject , or with the backward movement to retreat . The word fer comes from the Latin realis (real), with the Latin suffix -izare (put into practice, convert into). To do is to make something real.

I’m excited to be assigned the reflexive verb and ask how they understand me in relation to it. I am glad to know that Chiquita Room represents, for the editors of A * Desk, a paradigmatic example of personal fulfillment and project. And that they consider that the majority of artists with whom I collaborate, in residence or exhibition, work intimately personally, and that the books that we publish do not stop being small accomplishments. When I look around, I realize that the realization phase was inevitably preceded by the realization phase. Art had to fall by its own weight and the crooked path of understanding (me) gave way to feeling the right, the authority and later the realization.

Chiquita Room was born in 2018 as a home for contemporary art, after having started the Chiquita Ediciones publishing house as an artist's book in 2013, while working as a journalist on cultural projects. I was actually looking for a flat, but when I found the place in Villarroel, 25, the same space gave me the idea and the opportunity to integrate my personal and professional life, to make myself real. The complexes were diluted, confidence gained ground and inspiration entered what is now my home and my life. From here, I want to share a close, human, feminine and feminist vision of art, through issues relevant to contemporary society and with a critical and innovative approach. And most of all, I want to do this by exploring the poetics of artistic expression, learning through the interaction between people, art, and other disciplines, sharing this beautiful and necessary way of looking at the world.
