"Juan Aguirre. Works 1968-1980", history of avant-garde art in the Miguel Marcos gallery

The Miguel Marcos Gallery presents, from December 10 to January 31, an exhibition Juan Antonio Aguirre. Works 1968-1980, a selection of works that allows us to observe the artistic evolution of a key painter in the history of avant-garde Spanish art and which, for the first time, are exhibited in Barcelona.

The initial works of Juan Antonio Aguirre present naive connotations, along with some series of abstract character. Always based on figuration, his painting evolved into the compositional inflexibility of neoconstructivism, which fostered its pictorial character and style, in which color dominates, inspired by Bonnard, Matisse, Munch, and the use of indefinite forms. His works abound in still lifes, which are a reflection of his attention to more trivial subjects and the plasticity of interior landscapes with, also, autobiographical episodes. In all his works there is a chromatic determination, applied to multiple images, taken from any field.
